Hundreds of residents, families, staff, and neighbors gathered for PRC's biggest Juneteenth celebration yet — a full day of food, music, and community pride that reminded us why we do this work.
On June 19th, PRC Integrated Care Services hosted its largest community event in organizational history — a Juneteenth BBQ and block party that drew hundreds of residents, family members, staff, volunteers, and neighbors to our Phoenix campus. The smell of smoked brisket, ribs, and corn on the cob filled the air from mid-morning, and the music didn't stop until well after sunset.
Juneteenth — the federal holiday marking the emancipation of enslaved people in the United States — holds particular meaning for the families PRC serves. Many of the households in our programs are navigating systems that have historically excluded or harmed Black Americans: housing markets, financial institutions, and workforce pipelines. We wanted this day to be a celebration of freedom, resilience, and community in the truest sense.
The event featured live performances from local artists, a kids' zone with face painting and games, a community resource fair where families could connect with partner organizations, and a communal cookout that had every care navigator, coach, and director manning a grill or carrying a tray. There were no titles on Juneteenth — just neighbors feeding neighbors.
We want to thank every volunteer, partner organization, and community member who made the day possible. Events like this are a reminder that housing stability is not just about keeping a roof overhead — it is about building a community where people feel seen, celebrated, and at home. We will see you next Juneteenth, and the one after that.
